New school opened in Zimbabwe

What started as a small gesture allowed the Salvation Army to open a large school.

Love and compassion were important values for Sekuru Sande, who lived near Mutare, in Zimbabwe. He would surely be proud to see what his values have achieved today in Zimbabwe. After several years of construction work, his school was officially opened on 27 October 2022 with national TV media in attendance.

The results are truly impressive: more than 600 children from a poor neighbourhood of the city of Mutare now have access to education at the Sekuru Sande Primary School. The Salvation Army’s schools in Zimbabwe – of which there are now 54 – are among the best in the country.

Mr Sande could not have imagined just how far his care and compassion would go. But it is often small gestures that achieve great things. And many big stories start small. His values will now be passed on to future generations in the country and create opportunities and prospects for thousands of children.
