With this project, the Salvation Army aims to sustainably improve the health of people living in the Mirpur 10, 11 and 12 area of the capital, Dhaka. The focus is on people suffering from leprosy and tuberculosis, as well as on protecting girls and boys from sexual violence. The Salvation Army also provides those affected with social, financial and organisational assistance. The majority of residents are part of the Bihari Muslim ethnic minority. The Salvation Army’s services and offers are provided regardless of the religion of those seeking help. Bangladesh’s Bihari community face discrimination and a range of difficulties. Most have no source of income, are under the poverty line, and live in cramped conditions. The Salvation Army’s project directly supports 2,500 people, including 700 women and 1,100 children.
