Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville)

A series of armed conflicts in the Pool region have systematically destroyed the education system and social cohesion. Schools alone are unable to provide optimal care for children. The Salvation Army aims to promote a culture of peace in the region. Building education centres provides access to education and encourages pupils to stay in school. Because intellectual development can only happen if basic needs are being met, the centres are designed to operate independently in the long term. Each of them is provided with fresh drinking water, solar power installations, an internet connection and a library. The project supports more than 3,000 people in total. Although most of these are children, women and men can also visit the centres to meet up and learn literacy skills. Sporting activities are also organised for more than 900 people. By providing both education and activities, the project opens up new perspectives. It also focuses on former child soldiers,
helping them to integrate into society.
